Recent whereabouts...

If you're wondering where I've been or what's happened to me, rest assured I'm not dead, but I recently woke up in Montana and thought I might be, because I was most definitely in heaven...

"I’m in love with Montana. For other states I have admiration, respect, recognition, even some affection. But with Montana it is love. And it’s difficult to analyze love when you’re in it."

John Steinbeck (from Travels With Charley: In Search of America)

I've been going to Montana to visit my father since I was in high school, and each time I come home to Oklahoma a little piece of me stays there. One day, one day, all of me will. But not this trip. Pics and blogs to follow, but right now I'm tired so the rest of the quote from one of my favorite books from one of my favorite authors will have to suffice...

"Montana seems to me to be what a small boy would think Texas is like from hearing Texans. "

  2. Well, glad to know you're still around anyway. Was afraid that switch from Famous Grouse might've done you in.

  3. Montana is spectacular. Heading that way for a wedding (not mine, thankfully) next week. And the quote about Texas as described by Texans couldn't be more true.

  4. My brother's been out there about 18 years and I don't think we're gonna get him back east. We're headed out next summer for his wedding, which will be my first taste of Big Sky country, and I'm already making my list of gotta do and see.

This one reminded me of a saying we have here.

'never ask a man if he's from yorkshire, if he is he'll already have told you, if he isn't you'd be embarrassing him'

  6. We will be headed up to North Central MT with 4 guys and 4-5 dogs to hunt Sharptails and Huns in 6 weeks. It is very hard for me to unwind, but hunting behind the dogs someplace so different from home (Illinois) just seems to do my spirit well. I come home exhausted, yet well rested.
