An old photo of Holly, my first chessie and the meanest, toughest, surliest old school bay dog bitch I've ever seen. She loved me beyond measure, tolerated my wife, and everyone else could go to hell. I hope I never have another one like her, but god, how I miss her sometimes...

And for today's edition of Mallard's Infinite Playlist... well, pretty conventional stuff, really: the Cowboy Junkies and their exquisite, haunting, beautiful cover of the Velvet Underground's Sweet Jane. As much as I like the original, when the Cowboy Junkies' version came out in '88 I thought then - and still do today - that it was simply one of the most beautiful songs I'd ever heard.
Was I in love with a girl at the time and did playing this song over and over and over in my
Damn, I loved their cover of that tune, too, but it'd been years since I've heard it. It's stood the test of time well, I'd say! Hairdos not so much, but I still think Margo Timmins was hot.
ReplyDeleteI still think Margo Timmins is pretty hot. Catch Cowboy Junkies on a good night and the experience'll raise the hair on the back of your neck. Their current work doesn't appeal to me as much as the older stuff (with the exception of the covers album "Early 21st Century Blues") but it is still worth catching them live. And, yeah, that's the definitive version of "Sweet Jane" in my book.

The pics of your dog made my throat tighten. Just had to put my 12 year old lab/Chessy partner down. She patrolled with me for the last 11 years and my truck is VERY lonely without her. What great photos you have of yours.
