ReplyDeleteThe last paragraph of The Road. Great read. Typical McCarthy weird, dense, spooky-brilliance, but not a book I'd recommend reading if hope is something you cherish. I break it out and read it every other year or so when I feel myself getting too optimistic about, well, anything...

ReplyDeleteI saw the "Road" awhile back and its ruined my day in the best possible way, and still haunts me. I have been working up the nerve to read the book ever since.
ReplyDeleteIt's one of my least favorites in his catalog, but I still love it. It's made me bummed both times I've read it, while the first was during the darkest period of my life so far, so there is resonance I guess.
ReplyDeleteJust read the Dog Stars, by Peter Heller. Not on the Cormac level, but it was a good way to kill and afternoon.. that paragraph reminds me of it. Hope all is well in OK buddy.
