Dinah's Leapin' Lewey 2006-2010

I'm taking a hiatus from blogging for a while. Yesterday morning Lewey, my big, loveable, half-human goofball and our beloved family clown, died suddenly and unexpectedly. He had just turned four on January 20th. I can't seem to find much solace in writing.

  1. This is one of those things that never gets easier with experience. I'll skip the cliches cause I know you've heard 'em all and they don't offer much solace either. I'm thinking about you...

  2. Oh, no. It's awful to lose one when he's old and you've loved him forever, but I think losing a beloved dog in the prime of his life may be even worse. You and your family are in my thoughts --

  4. I am so sorry. It's so hard to lose pure Love, and that is what a dog is - pure, unadulterated, unconditional Love and happy optimism.

  5. I know that sorry does not seem to cover the hurt felt but that and time is all any of us can offer.

  8. Our condolences Chad. Those of us who love and are loved by dogs know the loss is as stinging as the loss of any other unique individual. and the mourning is real.

  9. Dang--That's hard! Took me almost 10 years to get a new huntin' buddy (a Brittany) after I lost my 100 pound Chessie I got as a ball that fit in the pocket of my parka when I was living in Homer, AK---he got a form of pneumonia that kept him from laying down for two days before I had to put him down. His eyes were just like your pups...

    Deepest Condolences,
    Cork

  12. Bummer, Chad!

I lost a young lab a couple of seasons back in much the same way. Unexpected illness and a rapid downwind run. Losing an old dog hurts a lot. Losing a young one is a real killer.
