I'm not a terribly hard-core gun nut, but I do have a special fondness for old .22s, perhaps because so many of them have such stories in them.Chad Lovehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13219295562957353591noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4972254401664966699.post-48748857353891075952010-05-19T11:06:43.596-05:002010-05-19T11:06:43.596-05:00Great story, Chad.

When I came back to these pursuits, the first gun I bought was nearly identical to that old rifle.Tovar@AMindfulCarnivorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02786679920725797712noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4972254401664966699.post-48472255264548883682010-05-12T15:50:59.239-05:002010-05-12T15:50:59.239-05:00I just bought my first rifle. My Dad's family were all oilfield workers, though the kids worked the fields when they could.

My Dad gave me a single-shot Winchester 20 gauge, what he'd bought when he was younger for the same reasons you say here. It's a model 37, plain-Jane and the only thing I hunted with until I could finally get a Mossberg 500 pump gun when I got a bit older.

I am very lucky to still have it, though it is beat up something bad. I've got to re-fashion a new firing pin one day, and I hope my children learn to shoot on it.

Except, it kicks like a possessed mule.Joshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05409883521642115031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4972254401664966699.post-26907580262011435532010-05-10T15:32:32.461-05:002010-05-10T15:32:32.461-05:00Another nicely done and evocative post, Chad. I don't remember the mark on the barrel, but it was a simple old, single-shot 20ga that taught at least three generations of boys to handle and shoot a "real" gun.Philliphttp://www.hog-blog.comnoreply@blogger.com
